Cholesterol Product Reviews
What makes an effective cholesterol fighting supplement? While there are many, many factors that need to be considered when answering this question, the facts aren't all that complicated when you break them down: Quality ingredients, results of studies, customer feedback, completeness of formula, etc. We've done a very thorough analysis of the top all-natural cholesterol products on the market today. Below is the results of our findings. For more information and to see how the products stack up next to one another, visit our comparison section.
LipidShield appears well established having been on the market for many years now. The ingredients list includes certified 95% pure plant sterols and stanols, red yeast rice, niacin, policosanol from sugar cane, guggulipid, and selenium. The formula addresses both dietary and genetic cholesterol sources. It has ingredients to inhibit cholesterol production in the liver and block cholesterol from food. Niacin is known to increase HDL cholesterol (good cholesterol). The Niacin is in the form of inositol hexanicotinate, also known as time released niacin, or flush-free niacin.
Some ingredients in supplements are backed by clinical trials. LipidShield is unique because the formula itself has been the subject of clinical trials with impressive results and was very well tolerated by subjects throughout the course of the trial. There is a 90 day money back guarantee and an extensive list of favorable testimonials.
The Heart Savior formula includes proven cholesterol lowering ingredients and the formula is clinically proven to lower LDL, VLDL, and triglycerides. This formula is made up of 6 well known cholesterol lowering ingredients; certified 95% pure plant sterols and stanols, red yeast rice, niacin, policosanol, guggulipid, selenium, and CoQ10. The anti-inflammatory benefits of policosanol and guggul enhance the cardio vascular benefits of this product.
The formula is similar to LipidShield, but with higher milligram dosages and with the addition of heart healthy CoQ10. CoQ10 also works as an anti-inflammatory, which can have very noticeable benefits on a wide variety of discomforts ranging from skin disorders to joint pain. Heart Savior's aim is lower cholesterol and triglycerides while improving heart and circulatory health.
Cholesterclear is a phytosterol supplement. The only active ingredient is plant sterols. Plant sterols are an effective way to combat dietary cholesterol, but are not capable of combating other sources of cholesterol. This means if you are genetically inclined to produce more cholesterol (in the liver), you will likely need additional supplements to effectively lower your cholesterol. There are also much cheaper plant sterol supplements of similar dosage. Cholesterclear does come with a 60 day money-back guarantee, but this is the shortest guarantee of the products we have reviewed to date. Two months is a short time when measuring cholesterol change.
Cholestasys is a solid formula, but does not include Red Yeast Rice or CoQ10. Ignoring red yeast rice leaves an entire group of enzymes continuing to create new genetic cholesterol. This lowered the genetic cholesterol rating from "complete" to "good." We recommend that if you have high cholesterol and are taking cholestasys, you should further supplement with Red Yeast Rice. The type of niacin used in cholestasys is not specified. Since we cannot verify that the niacin is flush free, this supplement comes with the risk of a flushing side effect. The biggest negative points of Cholestasys are the lack of red yeast rice, CoQ10, formula trials, and the high price tag. All in all, an average supplement with a high price tag. We give it 3 stars. It will lower your cholesterol, but not as effectively as some other options.
Cholest Off uses a repackaged form of plant sterols. The benefits of Cholest Off (like CholesterClear) over generic plant sterols is unclear and the cost difference is significant. The formula does not take into account the impact that genetics has on your cholesterol levels and therefore renders it less significant than other formulas. While the cost of Cholest Off is attractive, we cannot find any testimonials or product guarantees. The formula is incomplete and has no heart health or circulatory support. Overall, Cholest Off receives a 1 star rating.
CholesLo appears to have a semi-complete formula. While the quality of its ingredients appear to be high, the lack of circulatory support and additional high-value ingredients such as Niacin make some of the other options available more attractive.
